A runner's Lament
Ok I just found out how to do this running thing. and even though i'm doing a very cheap run (Yak's to Borlis) for tips only (ranged from 1gp to 1200, just depends on how much someone is willing to pay) and I get it most of the time.
What hits me hard though is when one of my fellow run-ee's have the Way is Blocked quest, which adds a hoard of Ettins and summit archers to the path. The Ettins gang-rape me by cornering me on all sides while the archers cripple me at the same time, making my movement harshly slow.
I do have "Purge conditions" i can cast, but it sets me back a few feet, thrusting me into a group of enemies that are piling towards me. I try using Healing breeze to gather up lost hitpoints, but they use shatter enchantment, shattering any health I have regained and more. I do have endure pain which adds around 230 health, it helps a litter but not when theres 8 ettins on the path each doing 27 damage to me, which adds up in the long-run.
I'm still trying to locate the "Defy pain" skill, which is the elite version of Endure pain i think, and it would add some much needed hitpoints. Perhaps a more elite version of sprint and purge conditions would help nicely too.
Again, I'm kinda new at this running thing but I've done a pretty good job so far, earning around 8k in two days. But it would be nice to get some pointers on being a better runner.
And please do not suggest "run to droks" or "try running to beacons." I've tried, I do not know the route and pathways and I die even worse than 4 ettins beating on me. I'd rather stick to Yaks-Borlis run, thanks.

I use "I will survive" alot for running maybe that can help.
I try and stay away from using endure or defy as its temporary health can lead to insta death once it ends. If you have access to factions and the profession changer you could always try running as W/R , troll ungent before you run thru and zojuns for range attackers.
You could also try having your groupee's attack some mobs giving you a chance to skirt around them.

I looked for that, I can't find it, isn't that the shout that adds speed just like sprint?
Defy has actually helped me, and when it ends i do lose health but usually at the perfect time when i just escaped a large group.
I do tell my groupies if they have the quest "the way is blocked" to tell them to abandon it to make my run a lot smoother. In a run, that quest isn't needed anyway. They can pick it back up later.

The shout you are thinking about is called "Charge!" and is a long, long ways away from Yak's Bend.
Aisius was referring to the skill Zojun's Haste, which is the Factions Campaign duplicate of the Prophecies Ranger skill Dodge. It's a very useful skill in my opinion. I used Dodge when running my level 15 Ranger through the Crystal Desert (I don't like paying for runners, no offense to you and your chosen hobby). However, it is linked to the Expertise line, which as a Warrior primary you don't have access to. You'll only get 5 seconds out of the skills individually, a total of 10 seconds if you get both and chain them.
Defy Pain can be capped just south of Beacon's Perch, but the boss can be hard to kill due to Ice Imps spawning with him. Sadly, Defy Pain would not be a very useful addition to your running build (in my opinion, of course) due to it's relatively high Adrenaline cost. To rely on it would require you to either stand still and get beat on, or to fight with foes. Doing that would lower your health, and may even make the boost from Defy Pain useless, and even harmful when it ends.
I reccomend you either request those you are running to abandon the quest, or use Healing Breeze (or other health regenerating spells/skills) just before drawing aggro. Above all else, keep striving to do what you want to do! Get that run down to a science, so that one day you can complete even harder, more rewarding runs.

Heya,
Mend Ailment and Purge will take you pretty far. But your mana will get depleted fast as you mend and mend and mend to remove cripple. Then you have less energy for running.
My suggestion:
Most of this area you're running deals physical damage and there's not a lot of drain or removal. That makes this pretty easy for you, so instead of trying to negate damage by healing, simply revert to being a stance runner. You don't have to run fast via sprint or charge, to make it. Ranger runners would tell you this much. You can easily use stances to walk right through what normally would destroy you. Things like Defensive Stance, Shield Stance. Shouts like Shields up. Etc. When crippled arrows miss you due to "block" or "evade" then you aren't crippled. 75% chance to walk right through groups without taking a single hit is great. Then when you've walked through a good portion, you hit Sprint and leave them behind. You rarely will even need to heal. With a high tactics, you can get nearly those stances up almost constantly. You will run less fast, but you will jog safely through areas that may have given you trouble. Then simply sprint the easier ones.
When it comes to mob runs, you're better evading them via stances than trying to shrug off damage, conditions and out-run them. You'll get trapped and have no running skill to aid you when crippled, so instead, focus on fixing it all with a stance and save your run for once you're through them.
Cheers!

These posts have been most helpful! I currently do not have factions thought it is installed (someone jacked the CD-key, so we're trying to get tech support to help us with that since we don't have a receipt to return it).
i'm not much of a defensive player so I've found telling my groupies to abandon "The way is blocked" helps a lot. tough not all of them do it every time >_>
And i do use healing breeze by the way, which helps most of the time, untill i get it shattered and it takes away 71 hitpoints.

I totally, 100% disagree with you. Endure pain should ALWAYS be on your running skill bar, it's really the BEST instant, no cast time heal that a warrior/monk can use. If you need more than 12 seconds to get out of what already knocked out your hp, you're dead anyways.
If you have to stop to cast something, chances are you are already dead.
Here's a build you might want to consider, because it uses max strength and tactics.
Charge
Balanced stance
Endure Pain
Healing Signet
Sprint
Smite Hex
Purge Conditions
Holy Veil / free slot if no hexes on run.

Yeah, i only need endure pain for a few seconds. As long as there aren't ettins pounding me down on the final few seconds of the spell.
I got a couple on that list but i can't find charge, I'm not in the area that it's in yet. Never heard of smite hex or holy veil.

I'm sorry my contribution to this thread may have not been what you were after or misleading. I don't know why I said zojun's haste I had been meaning to say Storm chaser.
But that doesn't matter too much now as I think what MalVeauX has said will be fine to get you through the difficulties your facing.
I use wiki (guild wars encyclopedia) alot to help with my learning of the game. The skills list being the main page I bookmark http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Index_of_Skill_Lists
If you can sort out your factions conundrums Charge can be a little easier to cap than the prophercies counterpart only it will still require a fair amount of investment in missions to get there. Depends what campaign you want to play in mostly.
